Privacy Policy
This site's entire purpose is to show you information about your own network connection, so we want to be exact about what that means for your privacy: every value on the homepage (your IP address, internet provider and approximate location) is computed live, at the moment your browser requests the page, directly from data your connection already sends to any website you visit. None of it is written to a database, logged against your identity, or shared with a third party.
What we compute (and immediately discard)
When you load this site, our server reads three things that are present in every web request you make, to any website, whether or not that site chooses to show them to you: your IP address, the network your IP address is registered to (used to show your internet provider), and Cloudflare's own approximate geolocation for that IP address range (city, region, country, and where available a postal code and timezone). We display these values back to you and then discard them; they are never written to a log file, a database, or an analytics record tied to your visit. This is a technical necessity of how the page works, not an optional feature we could disable: showing you your own IP address requires reading your IP address for that single request.
The IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack check
The "IPv4 and IPv6, side by side" panel on the homepage makes two additional, independent lookups directly from your own browser (not our server) to api4.ipify.org and api6.ipify.org, a free, keyless public IP-echo service used only to detect the address family our own server-side check didn't cover. These requests go straight from your browser to ipify's servers; we never see, log, or store their responses. If you'd prefer these two requests not happen at all, you can block api4.ipify.org and api6.ipify.org with a browser extension or content blocker. The rest of the page, including your primary IP address result, will continue to work normally.
Cookies and analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies and does not track individual visitors across sites or fingerprint your browser. It reports only aggregate figures (like total page views and which pages were popular) and never an individual visitor's IP address or browsing history to us. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking of any kind.
Feedback widget
The optional feedback button lets you send an anonymous thumbs up/down, or a short text comment protected by a spam-prevention check. Neither includes your IP address, email, or any other identifying information. Only the tool name, your vote (or comment text), and the domain name are recorded, purely so we can see which pages are working well and which aren't.
What we never do
To be explicit about the boundaries:
- We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share any data with advertisers or data brokers. There is nothing to sell, since nothing is retained past the request that generated it.
- We do not build user profiles, session histories, or visitor fingerprints.
- We do not require an account, email address, or any form of sign-up to use any tool on this site.
- We do not use the IP address or location values shown to you for any purpose beyond displaying them back to you in that single response.
Children's privacy
This site is a general-audience technical reference tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, since, as described above, no personal information is collected or retained by the site at all.
Third-party links
Some pages link to external references (for example, Wikipedia articles explaining networking terms, or router manufacturers' own documentation). Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control. This policy only covers this site itself.
Data retention, in one sentence
There is nothing to retain: the values computed for your visit exist only for the duration of generating the single page response you receive, and are discarded immediately afterward. We have no database table, log file, or cache that stores per-visitor IP addresses, locations, or ISP names, so there is no retention period to specify because no retention happens.
Security
The site is served entirely over HTTPS (encrypted in transit) and runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure, which provides standard protections against common web attacks at the network edge before traffic ever reaches our application code. Because we don't operate a traditional database of visitor information, there's no user data store that could be exposed in the event of a breach. The only stored data on this site is the anonymous, non-identifying feedback described above.
Your choices
Because no account or sign-up exists on this site, there's no profile to delete or export. Your only "data" here is the single page response generated for you, which is never saved. If you'd like to avoid the two browser-side ipify.org lookups described above, use a content blocker to block api4.ipify.org and api6.ipify.org; if you'd like to avoid Cloudflare Web Analytics entirely, a standard browser tracking-protection or script blocker extension will do so, without affecting the core IP lookup result.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what data is computed or how the feedback widget works, the update will be posted on this page with a revised description. This policy does not constitute legal advice.
